A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, I lived in London and worked on some of the most extraordinary film, TV, and theatre shows across the UK. I loved being a wearer of many hats, but I mostly did sound and locations… anything that involved field operations was my jam.

I got to make this my career in no small part thanks to my silly camera. It’s not great, frankly, and that surprises people the most. I only have a single tiny crop-sensor DSLR from Nikon’s most basic (read: cheapest) range. But when I first moved to the UK alone at 19, I was pretty dumb about life and literally didn’t know anyone. I just wanted to be a part of all the cool things I had heard going about in town. So I took my camera on joyrides and offered to shoot things for free in exchange for people letting me into their rehearsal rooms and creative processes. Then it became auditoriums, and real stages, and larger-scale shows… in fact, I was introduced to my now second favorite musical (Titanic) because I captured SEDOS’ 2024 production of it. The majestic harmonies in We’ll Meet Tomorrow and Epilogue profoundly changed my life in one night.

Apparently, there comes a point for every photographer where "here's a Google Drive link of shows that I shot recently" stops qualifying as respectable proof that I'm half-decent at my craft. I'd eventually shot enough that I was getting told, with increasing frequency, that this was becoming a rather strange thing to do. After hearing this once too often — most mortifyingly from a West End photographer I revered for years — I threw this website together immediately afterwards, in a frenzied state of bottomless anxiety, from the Marugame Udon in Waterloo Station.

Every time I stand before a fine company of actors and hold up my camera, I feel grateful beyond measure to be endlessly inspired by the generational talent inhering within the theatre world. Matthew Murphy, Evan Zimmerman, Marc Brenner, Avery Brunkus, Heather Gershonowitz, Manuel Harlan, Johan Persson, Pamela Raith, Liza Heinrichs, Danny Kaan, Michaelah Reynolds, Valerie Terranova, and Marc Franklin are my career heroes. I can dead-on list you who shot the production photos of what shows (or for which national publication) on any West End or Broadway year. I can only ever aspire to look at light through their eyes one day.
